Canakkale

Canakkale is seaport in the Marmara region of Turkey, on the southern coast. Like Istanbul, it has territory in Europe and Asia both. The town is most famous as the nearest major town to the ancient city of Troy, so much so that the wooden Trojan horse from the 2004 movie Troy is exhibited here on the seafront. Canakkale used to be an Ottoman fortress called Kale-i Sultaniye or Fortress of the Sultan. Things to do here include visiting the Archaeological Museum, the Canakkale Monument in Martyrdom, and of course, visiting the archaeological site of Troy.
